Course Description

This course deals is an introduction to the basics of the Microsoft Access database. It introduces database relationships and covers the majority of aspects required by the exploration geologist; namely sorting, filtering and querying Access data. It also covers the steps required to import the Access database tables and queries into MapInfo, creating and linking to spatial objects, and utilizing drill data residing in the Access database to create plans and sections using the Discover drill hole module.

  • Introduce the Microsoft Access 2007 database and its interface
  • Discuss creating relationships and joining tables
  • Investigate sorting and filtering records
  • Create queries using the Query Wizard and Design View
  • Discuss query exception expressions
  • Utilise aggregates in a query
  • Access data import and linked tables
  • MapInfo DBMS and linked tables
  • Link an Access table to MapInfo polygons
  • Querying Access data from within MapInfo
  • Discover Drillholes linked to Access queries

Prerequisites:  Completion of the Applications of Discover course, or competency using MapInfo and Discover’s drill hole module.
