Course Description

This course introduces basic MapInfo concepts. By the end of the two-day course, attendees will be able to perform basic MapInfo functions such as working with tables and workspaces, create new tables, digitize data, register raster imagery, import data from other sources, perform thematic analysis, create a scaled output, and have an introductory exposure to MapInfo SQL.

Course Objectives

  • Discuss GIS data types and layering concept
  • Configure MapInfo
  • Examine the Main toolpad in detail
  • Investigate selection methods – both spatial and attribute-based
  • Work with MapInfo’s Layer Control and review spatial data entry procedures
  • Discuss and work with MapInfo labels
  • Review and discuss projections
  • Work through both attribute and spatial data import and translation
  • Investigate Scaled Output
  • Create a legend
  • Work through several exercises in thematic mapping
  • Complete a review exercise that ties together all concepts learned during the course

Prerequisites:  None

Optional Pre-course Skills:  Familiarity with basic computer skills.
