Course Description

This course deals with aspects of Discover related to geological exploration. It covers a number of Discover modules from the grassroots exploration stage to the drilling stage. Users can expect to be able to use Discover to significantly increase their map compilation, data analysis and Scaled Output abilities.

Course Objectives

  • Layout a local grid and discuss relationship to real world coordinates
  • Update coordinates, complete a Planar transformation and discuss Affine transformations
  • Examine creation of buffers and selection of data within the buffer
  • Define objects through X,Y coordinates and distance, bearing measurements
  • Annotate polylines with structural notations, such as reverse fault, strike-slip fault symbols, etc
  • Create a colour lookup table and apply it to geological polygons
  • Create geological legends for appending to a Scaled Output
  • Geochemical statistical techniques utilizing GraphMap and the GeoChem menu items
  • Utilize (in depth) the Surfaces menu to grid and contour topographic data
  • Utilize the Images menu to work with raster data
  • Create drill plans and sections
  • Review Discover’s object processing utilities

Prerequisites:  Introductory MapInfo and Discover course, or competent MapInfo skills

Optional Pre-course Skills:  Familiarity with geologic concepts, geochemical and surface analysis, and drilling programs
